A daytime wedding is nothing to be afraid of
Sometimes the change of pace from a typical evening event is just what your wedding needs to feel unique, and more like you. Long Island Summers are infamous for unpredictability in temperature and humidity, but also are known for the sunshine and our never ending access to beaches. Kelly & Cody had a plan to take advantage of all the things they love about the season, and the Long Island Wedding scene. Their wedding was simple, a ceremony and lunch at The LakeHouse in Bay Shore followed by entertainment and dancing before boarding a ferry to Fire Island. Fireside Sparrow Photography oversaw the formalities of their day up through sendoff, and it was a Summer Wedding to remember.
Timelines are still important
Even if your wedding feels less traditional than most, a timeline and a plan is still important. For Kelly & Cody that meant some 'getting ready' photos to get their small wedding party formals done, right into the ceremony. There was no First look, so family formals were taken care of right after the ceremony as well as the Romantics (Romantics is what us Wedding Photographers call your portraits). While this wasn't a full day event with many moving parts, it was still important to make sure there was time for all of the photography goals along with letting the couple enjoy their day.
Things to keep in mind for daytime weddings:
-Getting ready will start early, so starting photography after everyone is dressed is usually ideal
-If there is no First Look, your formals will take place during cocktail hour, so having a smaller wedding party or shot list will ensure you get to enjoy your time
-Restaurants give a much different vibe than your typical wedding venue. Really feel out how you envision your day when planning. If you are feeling more traditional, a venue will give you that vibe.
The Ceremony starts everyone's Day
How cool is it to know that everyone's day gets kicked off with your vows? A Daytime wedding means that you'll be saying 'I Do' right away. When weather permits, the sun will shining. At the LakeHouse, your ceremony's backdrop is an open sky, water, and passing ferry boats. It's a beautiful ode to Long Island Summers and then some. Your family and friends get to sit in the sunshine and take it all in while you commit your lives to each other.
Entertainment is a Must
Daytime weddings move quickly, the cocktail hour and lunch that follow the ceremony are back to back, so entertainment is important. Kelly & Cody not only had a live violin player along with the DJ, but, they also had Irish Step Dancer's. Kelly's Mom owns and teaches at Mise Eire Irish Dancers in Babylon, NY. Not only did they have students perform, but the Bride, her Sisters, Cousins, and former Dance Mates all performed also. It was joyful, personal, and really got the party stirring in the best way.
The Party Will get going
I think there is a myth about daytime weddings, that the party never really gets started. This was not the case at The LakeHouse for Kelly and Cody. Between the dancers, Pat Mangan, the Violinist and a great DJ, the party started right. All the way until sendoff the dance floor was packed. It was the perfect celebration for those not attending the after party on Fire Island, and an excellent pre-game for the guests who were.
Slip into something more comfortable
Before their epic sendoff, Kelly & Cody slipped into something more comfortable. The outfit change brought the vibes before the Ferry Boat whisked the couple and their crew away. There's something special about changing your outfits to set the tone for the rest of your evening.
Bon Voyage
The Wedding may be over, but the party has just begun. Is a Long Island Summer complete without a trip to Fire Island? Kelly & Cody had a special Ferry from Shoreline Trading Company that loaded their guests on board to travel over to Kismet to keep the momentum of their celebration going. The sendoff was epic, in matching bucket hats and their new fits, the Bride & Groom waved to us onlookers as they embarked a the second part of their special day.
